Co-creating Curriculum: Joint-University Teaching Exchange on University Chinese Programmes

On Tuesday, June 2, 2026 (1:45 PM – 5:00 PM), the Chinese Language Enhancement Programme  (School of Chinese, HKU) and the  Chinese language curriculum Teaching Section (Department of Chinese Language and Literature, CUHK) organized the "Co-creating Curriculum: Joint-University Teaching Exchange on University Chinese Programmes" at Room UG06, Sino Building, CUHK. Nearly 30 teachers from both institutions attended the event, which consisted of two main sessions.


Part 1: Teaching Case Sharing Two teachers from HKU’s Chinese Language Enhancement Programme presented their insights:

  • Dr. Poon Hon Fong presented "Beyond AI: Application and Evaluation of Gamified Self-learning Materials in Professional Chinese Courses," discussing the features of various self-learning platforms and student engagement.

  • Dr. Chan Chi Ming presented "Application of the Human–AI Synergy Learning Model (HASLM) in Learning Activities: A Case Study of Practical Chinese for Social Sciences Students (CSSC9001)," explaining the model's operation and student application.

Additionally, two teachers from CUHK’s Chinese language curriculum Teaching Section shared their expertise:

  • Dr. Ng Ting Yan presented "Integrating Tradition and Modernity: A Case Study of Thematic Teaching on Chinese Characters."

  • Dr. Ng Tsz Yan presented "The Application of AI Tools in University Chinese Courses."

The presentations were followed by a commentary and Q&A session, providing a highly rewarding mutual learning experience for all attendees.


Part 2: Group Discussions Teachers broke into smaller groups for in-depth discussions on topics including AI in language teaching, assessment models, cultural activities, and the development of professional Chinese courses. The event concluded with a lively and fruitful exchange of insights and ideas between the two institutions.
