Creating in the Theatre: Lecture on the Art of Directing by Mr. Fong Chun Kit (Hong Kong Repertory Theatre Assistant Artistic Director)
The TDLEG project " Drama and Communication: Enhancing Chinese Language Proficiency, Personal Growth, and Cross-Institutional Collaboration through Performance "organized by CLEP, invited Mr. Fong Chun Kit, Assistant Artistic Director of the Hong Kong Repertory Theatre, to deliver the third lecture in this project. The lectures were held on February 6 and 7 at YIA LT5 CUHK, and CPD-124, HKU respectively. Nearly 300 students from both universities registered. Mr. Fong shared his journey from first encountering theatre to studying stage performance and eventually becoming a theatre director. He introduced what he considers four crucial abilities in the art of directing: Audience Perspective, Artistic, Administration and Ambition. At the HKU, many students brought copies of The Impossible Trial – a musical program booklet for autographs. Beyond inquiring about the director's creative process, they also pressed Mr. Fong about the possibility of revivals for his works—a testament to theatre’s enduring appeal! Mr. Fong's insights proved immensely valuable to the students, deepening their understanding of theatre directing while broadening their appreciation for theatrical works. They also learned the critical importance of communication skills in team collaboration.
